Rescue Me ID: 17-02-23-00225Freida (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Sometimes, a dog just tugs at your heartstrings. That's what happened when we learned about a young mama, who had been picked up in another part of Idaho and taken to a shelter. At first, volunteers and rescuers suspected that she was pregnant, and that's when we agreed to take her in. However, after a vet exam, we learned that she had already given birth to puppies. Despite their best search efforts, volunteers and rescuers in the area could not find her puppies. So, now we'd like to introduce you to Freida, who has been living in a foster home this past week and who is ready to be spoiled by her own family. Freida is approximately 3 years ... (Read More)old. Foster mom, Cynthia, says, 'Oh, those soulful dark brown eyes! You can't see them in these photos because our Freida is very camera shy, but is definitely not shy when it comes to her affection and desire to please her people! She is so good in the house (except for a few little hiccups of curiosity regarding what food is on the kitchen counter), gets along great with my three dogs, walks very well on a leash, and absolutely adores cuddles. She is super smart and it struck me right off as to what a good service dog she might be because of her intelligence, calmness, and desire to please. She's a terrific girl and deserves nothing but the best with her forever family.' If you're interested in meeting Freida, please call the Rescue at 208-794-0944. *Please contact us for her adoption fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-23-00210Ruger (male)

Bluetick Coonhound Mix    Age: Senior

A 9 year old retiree, Ruger found himself at another Idaho shelter without a home to spend his golden years. We were more than happy to take him in and begin the search for an adopter. Ruger has lived in a foster home for the past week, but he is now available for adoption at the Rescue. Foster mom, Shirley, says, 'Ruger is doing wonderful, he is a gentle pup and gets along well with my dog. You can tell he has been trained, if you call (in most cases) he will come, sometimes his nose is working on a smell. If you tell him no he stops whatever he was doing (like trying to get on the couch), he now knows he doesn't get on the furniture. He ... (Read More)has had a bath and looks and smells great. He sleeps or rests on his blankets, something for his new owners should know, lay them down where you want him to (his space) and that is where he will lay. He has not used the kennel at all since he has been here, I have a blanket at the end of my bed and that is where he sleeps, and he sleeps all night. We did discover he cannot be in a house with a cat, he is a trained coon dog and reacted accordingly, which is too bad because this family friend (we brought him with us because they wanted to see him) fell in love with him. We were there two hours before he noticed the cat on the back of the couch and went after him, it took two of us to get him under control. He was not violent at all, but any small animal in the house would not be safe (hamsters etc).' *Please contact us for his adoption fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-20-00295Ralph (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Adult

Ralph (or 'Ralphie,' as he is affectionately called by his foster dad) is a 5 year old pup who recently transferred to us from an Idaho shelter. He is currently living in a foster home but looking for something more permanent. Foster mom, Barbara, says, 'Ralph has the sweetest personality. He can get very excited and act all puppy like, wanting to be petted, rolling on his back, then he calms down and lays around with the rest of the dogs. Very loving! He generally gets along well with the other dogs but we did have one little growling episode and I don't know if it was my dog or Ralph who was jealous being around me (my dogs hover around me ... (Read More)and follow me every where). He walks very well on leash, looking to me for where to go. He's been sleeping in his kennel but could be left out to sleep on someone's floor or in someone's bed if they wanted. He's pretty well house trained but did have one or two accidents when he first got here. I keep my dogs separated when I feed them so I don't know how he would do if fed around other dogs, but he stood back and waited to receive a biscuit while my ill mannered dogs crowded me. He seems over all really mellow unless he's getting petted and then he gets all excited and demands more petting.' Rescue Me ID: 17-02-20-00281Jax (male)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

One look at his face, and you'll fall in love, too. Jax is a 1.5-3 year old big lug who arrived one week ago from another Idaho shelter. He was surrendered there after his family reported that they couldn't keep him contained. He's been doing great in a foster home, though, and we think he'll make a great addition to any family. Jax's foster mom, Lois, says, 'Jax is a wonderful dog and will be great with kids of any age but I would love to see him go where they are 5+ just because he is big and goofy! He's totally housebroken, he loves to go for rides, walks great on leash with a harness and will play with toys for hours! He has a favorite ... (Read More)pink flying saucer toy that will definitely go to his new home with him! He is good with dogs & initially chased the cat but after the first 2 days all was fine. He is a quick learner and would love to have a family that could spend time working with him and exercising him! Jax is lovable, kind and cuddly and it will be a very fortunate family that adopts this dog!' Jax is now fully vetted and ready for adoption. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-18-00168Mia (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

We should warn you: if you come to our Rescue and meet Mia, you will probably fall in love and want to keep her forever. This girl is stunning and so sweet. She was a perfect angel during a meet-and-greet with several children today, and she has been nothing but nice to all of us. Mia is about a year and a half old, house- and kennel-trained, spayed, and current on all of her shots. She is a very well mannered and obedient dog, who found herself at another Idaho shelter after her family decided that they didn't want to work with her on her overprotective issues. Mia just loved her first family so much that she nipped at people who came too ... (Read More)close to her handler. Because she is so responsive to her person and so young, those behaviors could be managed with positive reinforcement. She just needs someone with experience and time to teach her what's appropriate and what's not. Mia is good with other dogs but will chase cats. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-18-00164Bandito (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Doesn't he look adorable in his little sweater? This is Bandito, a pint-sized pup looking for a new companion. After being surrendered to our Rescue, Bandito finds himself in need of a warm and loving home. He is 7 years old, neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. Bandito likes other dogs and older kids, but we don't know how he feels about cats or small children. He is house trained -- not so crazy about his kennel but will go in and keep it clean if he has to. Bandito knows a few basic commands (sit, stay, come) and will try to please his person. Please come meet him in person -- you'll just want to scoop him up! *Please contact us ... (Read More)for his adoption fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-18-00145Budda (male)

Bullmastiff Mix    Age: Adult

The official breed designation for Budda is BIG. Or REALLY BIG. This guy is a tank of a dog, but he doesn't seem to know it. He would like to be your best friend and will wiggle his whole body to show you how much he likes you. Budda has nice manners, taking treats ever so gently, walking pretty well with a harness, and not jumping up on you even when he's excited. The only slight problem is that Budda is secretly a Hound dog. He has a lot to say to you, and he has a lot of things he needs to smell. Like right now. So, when we go for walks with Budda, we just kind of follow his nose along with the rest of his body. Budda calls the shots. He ... (Read More)will sniff a patch of grass for as long as he wants to sniff that grass, thank you very much, and no amount of bribery will coax him to move. Budda has acquainted himself with every inch of this property (marked most of it, too), and we now all live in Budda's world. But it's a great world to be in, as we love this giant marshmallow. Budda previously lived in a home with a small child before being surrendered to another shelter. He is reportedly house trained and very dog selective (might do better as the only man in your life). Budda will definitely need to be neutered before going home, but he is otherwise vetted. If you're looking for a BIG dog, come meet this guy. *Please contact us for his adoption fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-18-00143Blackeye (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Hello, Meridian! My name is Blackeye, and I am so so happy to be your friend. I just love you already. We haven't exactly been introduced yet, but that's OK. I know you'll love me, too. My family surrendered me to another Idaho shelter, but I came here to find a family who wants to keep me forever. I really am such a good boy. I like people a lot, and I like to go for walks. I will walk right next to you. Well, most of the time. Sometimes, I get really excited when I see something new, and then I bounce a little. Hop a little. Do a little dance. That kind of thing. But then I'll come right back to your side. I love to chase tennis balls. ... (Read More)People keep telling me to 'fetch,' which is weird. I don't know what that means. They say it a lot. I think it means I should run around and act cute. Maybe I should go to a class or something? I like to learn things. I learned how to play the 'find it' game today, and it was so fun! It would be great if I could join your family, especially if you have kids, so we could learn new things together. Oh, also, I LOVE KIDS! They are so adorable, and they feed me food. I just like to sit down or lay down and gently take treats from them. Could you please adopt me and let me hang out with all of you for the rest of my life? Just us, OK? I've lived with other dogs and cats, but it would be so much better for me if I got to keep my people to myself. I'm a year and a half old and ready to be yours forever. *Please contact us for his adoption fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-16-00193Hagen (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Hagen (aka Blossom) is back at our Rescue. We were very sad to hear that her adoption didn't work out, but we would like to treat this as an opportunity to place her in an environment that works better for everyone. She was surrendered through no fault of her own. As some of you surely remember, Hagen was with us for several months last fall, and we were so excited to finally see her adopted by a wonderful young couple. They did an *excellent* job caring for Hagen these past couple of months; however, they lived in an area where dogs would wander off leash, and without a fenced yard, it was very difficult to exercise Hagen around so many ... (Read More)unsupervised dogs, considering how she can be reactive. Hagen loves to play play play with big dogs, but she is not good with small ones. That environment didn't work well for her. Hagen's family continued the training that she had started here with Lou at Good Citizen Dog Boise. She is learning to walk better on a leash and is becoming even more responsive to her person. We just know that the right family is out there somewhere for our girl. Hagen's adopters have provided the following write-up: 'Hagen is spayed, micro-chipped, potty trained and up to date on all of her shots. She is roughly a year old and is a great young dog- she has a LOT OF ENERGY when it's play time but she also loves naps and lounging around the house! Hagen is very curious and loves to explore things going on around her. She does good with kids, car rides, and other large dogs but she's not so fond of small animals. She is a quick learner and is very food motivated. She would love to have a yard where she can run and play and/or a family that will make sure she gets plenty of exercise. She knows basic commands such as sit and stay. She's done pretty good with the little leash training she's had but would really benefit from an owner who will work with her and teach her new things. Peanut butter, carrots, warm things like blankets or heaters, and cuddling are a few of her favorite things- cold weather and being cooped up in a kennel are two of her least favorite things. To ensure she is placed with a good family as soon as possible and that she has everything she needs-her former family has offered to donate all of Blossom's personal items to her new family. Personal Items: 1 Large dog bed 1 Small dog bed 1 Collapsible Wire kennel 1 Set of food and water dishes 2 Leashes 2 Black Kong toys 2 Dog sweaters' If you're interested in meeting Hagen, please stop by our Rescue during business hours. Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, three magical creatures were born. At a very young age, they traveled all the way to a town called Meridian in their quest for homes of their very own... OK, yeah, we can't keep that up for very long, but you get the idea! Introducing Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and their brother Rumpelstiltskin. These 4 month old Chihuahua/Dachshund mixes arrived via Wings of Rescue from California last week. We have been completing their vetting and giving them a chance to chill out in a foster home, but they are now ready to be adopted. Foster mom, Christine, says: 'They warm right up to you when they know they are ... (Read More)safe. They don't walk well on leashes - I tried all 3 this morning and they each sat on their haunches, pulling from 3 directions!! Cindy is the ring leader, but don't let them fool you, not one of them is as innocent as they try to look :) Rumple is super very bonded to her it looks like (just something to keep in mind).' Red, Rumpel, and Cindy will be available for adoption on Tuesday, February 14th, starting at 4:00 pm. They are joining several other puppies for our Valentine's Day Puppy Party! The adoption fee for each puppy is set at $300 to help cover the costs of their care. Puppies have now been examined and vaccinated. Cash's family provided photographs and notes about him, so we will use that information to start his bio and will continue to update it as we get to know him. Cash is about 1.5 years old and is all Hound. He has a lot to say, and he is very curious and energetic. Cash has really enjoyed playing with friends at doggie day care, but in the home environment, Cash has displayed resource guarding tendencies (over food) with his canine sister. Cash will need a dog savvy adopter who is willing to ... Rescue Me ID: 17-02-06-00143Nala (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Miss Nala arrived recently from Arizona and has been hanging out in a foster home where it's calm and quiet. She is a timid, shy little girl, who would like nothing more than a peaceful home of her very own. Nala is 6-7 years old, spayed, utd on shots, and microchipped. She does very well with dogs and cats -- in fact, she is currently staying in a foster home with one of our recently adopted dogs, Fitz. Nala is both house and kennel trained as well. Because of her temperament, we're looking for a mature household without any kids, as Nala would prefer to be around adults who would respect her boundaries and move a little more slowly. It was ... (Read More)reported that Nala bit a child, but the records are confusing. She has shown no signs of aggression here. Nala was previously sheltered at a facility in Arizona, and during her stay, she became pregnant. Nala had one fetus about 28 days old when the county shelter spayed her. We know that Nala has been through a lot of upheaval and that explains why she doesn't like to be picked up from the front and why she's reluctant to move out of her safe kennel space when she meets new people. Once Nala decompresses in a home, she is an absolute love and wants to hang out on the couch. If you're interested in meeting Nala, please call the Rescue at 208-794-0944. *Please contact us for her adoption fee. (Less)

Sadly they passed away a couple of months ago, leaving him without a family. Sam has a lot of spunk and personality. He is friendly, quiet, loves people and his foster's cat. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-05-00154Gus (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Senior

Meet Gus, a male Lab-hound mix approximately 12 years old. He's had a bit of a tough life. He was rescued from a shelter a couple of years ago by an elderly couple, but sadly they each passed away in the last two months, leaving him without a family. He is very quiet and gentle, content to sleep on his bed or anywhere that you are. Especially if you are in the kitchen! Gus gets around slowly, with a limp from arthritis in his shoulder and damage to a hip. His back end is a little weak and can slide out from under him. He would do best in a home with a lot of carpeting to give him stable footing, and no stairs. Gus is house-trained, getting ... (Read More)up to find someone to let him outside. No puppy behaviors here- no jumping, barking, chewing or chasing cats! He's looking for a loving home for living out his 'Golden Years', and a family that is willing to take on the extra care of a senior dog. Can you be his special family? We would absolutely love to place Gus in a loving, nurturing home, with a family who can give him the care he needs in this final stage of his life. Please call the Rescue at 208-794-0944 if you're interested in adopting Gus. He will remain in foster care until we can find him a good home. *Please contact us for his adoption fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-04-00240Catcher (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Catcher is in the building! He is so very handsome, isn't he? This 7 year old German Shepherd has been through a lot of change recently and is looking for a calm, permanent home of his very home. Originally pulled from a high kill shelter in California, Catcher made his way to another rescue and foster situation in Washington state. After a failed adoption, he found himself at another shelter, then on a transport back down to southern California. A brief stay in boarding was next, then another transport to several other states before arriving here in Idaho. Did you follow all that? We're exhausted just thinking about it. When Catcher ... (Read More)arrived, we placed him in a foster home to decompress. If anyone deserved that break, it was definitely Catcher. Foster mom, Brenda, says, 'I have discovered that when he gets comfortable, he begins to find his place by becoming the alpha dog. He loves people a lot, he just becomes jealous if he isn't the one getting all the attention. He doesn't do well with cats. He has been great about being house trained. He keeps his kennel clean. I wouldn't leave him out when no one is home and when he is outside, he barks to let you know when he is ready to come in. He is a great 4 am alarm clock too -- that is when he starts barking and wanting to go outside and then be fed.' Catcher will be a great companion for a family who either wants to make him the center of their world or who is willing to very slowly introduce him to other dogs and integrate him into a multidog household. He has lived with other dogs more than once, but he needs a dog savvy family to make that work. *Please contact us for his adoption fee. (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Meet our newest cutiepie, BoBo. He is one half of a dynamic duo, though we've learned that this pair is not bonded. BoBo, a 6 year old male Chihuahua, is now at the Rescue and ready for adoption. Previously, BoBo and BayBay were living in a foster home while their vetting was completed. Foster mom Kimber reports, 'Both BayBay and Bobo are lovers if you like puppy kisses. Bobo is the energy, he is full of fun and wants to play with you, not so much toys. BayBay will cuddle all day long with kisses to show how much she loves to be loved. Treats are a great tool, they act as if they have never had them before. Neither of them are house or ... (Read More)kennel trained but with better weather and a little time they can be. BayBay will use a puppy pad in her kennel. Bobo will go outside but he does spray in the house.' Rescue Me ID: 17-01-17-00221Eliza (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

At almost 7 years of age, Miss Eliza here has settled nicely into adulthood. She gets along well with other dogs; she knows several commands; she's spayed, utd on shots, and healthy. Eliza exhibited minimal separation anxiety in her previous household by scratching the door from which her family would leave, but she never chewed or destroyed anything in the house. According to her previous family, Eliza's perfect day would start with breakfast around 6:30-7:00, as long a walk as you want to take her on, a ride in the car, and another walk in the evening and dinner around 6:00pm. While on walks, her nose is to the ground and she loves to mark ... (Read More)her territory outside on weeds and tall grass. Her favorite toys are her Kong Squeaky tennis balls, and her braided rope for tug-o-war, and her squeaky Panda. Eliza's one issue is that she is scared and nervous around babies, so a mature household is desired for her. An ideal home for Eliza may be with a retired couple who can be with her a lot. She is a loyal and affectionate companion, and she is just waiting for you to take her home. Come meet Eliza, a Lab/Hound mix, at the Rescue during open hours. *Please contact us for her adoption fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-10-13-00229Gracie (female)

Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix    Age: Puppy

Meet Gracie, the cutest little Rhodesian Ridgeback you could ever meet. She's a 1 year old sweetheart, with lots of love and licks for her family. Gracie is full of energy for a game of catch out in the yard, but when she comes inside she knows how to settle right down, use her 'inside manners,' and chill out at your feet or in her crate. She is friendly with the neighbor dog through the fence, but hasn't been tested with other dogs. Gracie is interested in cats but we're unsure how she would do with one in the house. She loves all people, especially little kids, while still being a good watchdog when someone comes to the door. Gracie walks ... (Read More)well on a leash, not pulling or tugging. She is learning 'come', 'sit' and 'stay'. Due to a weak esophagus, Gracie does best when she can eat smaller meals during the day, with her front paws up on a bench or step-stool. Just look into her soft brown eyes and fall in love!' Gracie is in a foster home; please contact the rescue to arrange a meeting. (Less)
